Emergency Tooling Transfer from a Distressed Supplier
An Automotive OEM and a large Tier I integrator were faced with a potentially expensive vehicle line down situation when they were given short notice that one of their injection molding suppliers was going to shut down their operations permanently. There was not enough time for either of them to do a thorough investigation/due diligence to ensure a smooth transfer of this program to another molder.
Sur-Flo Plastics has been known for accomplishing many successful tooling transfers, including projects that did not go by the book. Sur-Flo’s Manufacturing and Engineering teams reviewed the parts, quality issues, and available machine capacity to determine the best way to help solve the customers’ concern of a potential part shortage. Once it was agreed by all parties that the tools could be run at Sur-Flo, the work was pulled from the distressed molder and sent directly to Sur-Flo’s manufacturing facilities.
As the tools began to arrive one Friday, Sur-Flo personnel began preparing the tools to run in the presses. As the process continued into the weekend, it was becoming apparent that all expectations would be exceeded. With the on-site collaboration between Sur-Flo and the customer to qualify the parts in an expedited fashion, Sur-Flo was able to ship quality approved parts by the following Monday.
Sur-Flo’s experience and ability to follow through on our commitments to our customers have earned us a solid reputation in the Automotive Industry.
